Georgian Fireplaces and Fire Surrounds
The Georgian period (1714–1830) transformed British architecture and interior design, establishing principles of balance, proportion and classical elegance that continue to influence homes today. Fireplaces became an integral architectural feature, designed not simply to provide warmth but to complement the symmetry and refinement of the room.
Inspired by the classical architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, Georgian fire surrounds are characterised by carefully considered proportions, restrained ornamentation and finely executed detailing. Columns, friezes, carved tablets and elegant mouldings became defining features, while materials such as marble and limestone reflected both the craftsmanship and architectural ambitions of the period.
As Georgian architecture evolved, so too did fireplace design. Early Georgian fireplaces tended to be relatively simple, whereas later designs, influenced by architects such as Robert Adam and Sir William Chambers, introduced greater refinement through delicate classical motifs, decorative carving and beautifully balanced compositions. These later fireplaces remain among the most enduring and recognisable designs in British interiors.

To ensure every fireplace is specified and installed correctly, we offer a complimentary site survey as part of our service.
Your survey is carried out by an experienced, qualified installer who will assess the space, confirm dimensions, review installation requirements and ensure the project complies with all relevant regulations. The visit will also enable a clear installation quotation to be prepared and an opportunity to meet the specialist who would oversee the installation, giving confidence that every detail has been considered before work begins.
