First and foremost it's our choice of the highest grade of natural materials - all are chosen for their suitability for fine carving and the character of the stone itself. Typically this is the creamy white lightly veined marble quarried in Hebei province - we call this material carrara white marble to convey the characteristics of its greyer cousin from Italy - others refer to it as statuary marble. Our other principal material is Aegean limestone - again superb for carving and much more interesting to the eye than many of the more bland west European limestones

Secondly all our fire surrounds are imbued with character and uniqueness as they are hand carved by experienced artisans whose families have typically been stone carvers for over a thousand years - no two of the surrounds we offer are exactly the same as each carver has his own small nuances

Carefully chosen natural raw materials skilfully fashioned by hand somehow impart a "living" quality that the human eye instinctively appreciates

A third characteristic that underpins our quality is the selection of accurate period designs diligently copied from historical originals. This includes specific motifs and aspects of design as well as ensuring the correct proportions

Once the finished surrounds are delivered to our UK workshop they are subjected to a meticulous examination to ensure nothing has been damaged in transit

The final stage is the careful delivery to our customers - nearly always on our own vehicles to ensure that last reassurance
